"Guns" and "airport" create an uneasy combination in a sentence. Here I am airside at London Stansted, beyond security checks, amidst a crowd of 100, some openly carrying firearms, ranging from handguns to assault weapons. The airport police are present, seemingly observing – or are they perhaps actors dressed as airport police?
Welcome to Stannywood, the site of a temporary film set.
https://justhelp1983.blogspot.com/rss.xml"All passengers clear." The announcement echoes at 11:18 pm. With no arrivals or departures scheduled for a few hours, Stansted, one of the UK's busiest airports, transforms into a film set for an action thriller: "One More Shot." Premiering on Sky on January 12, the film showcases numerous terminal departures, but not in a positive light. The dispatchers wield semi-automatic weapons instead of high-visibility jackets. Ironically, everyone off-camera wears a hi-vis jacket, except when it might reflect in this expansive steel and glass "studio."
The plot involves terrorists bringing a "dirty bomb" to Washington DC; Jake Harris, played by Scott Adkins, is the lone hero who can prevent Armageddon. While the movie takes a dark turn for most characters, a happily-ever-after ending ensues, except for those meeting their demise in the terminal, reaching a body count approaching the capacity of an Airbus A320. 'No problem.'
"So there is a genuine unbroken fight on the TTS, between one and two minutes of fighting on a moving carriage at its top speed of 28mph, and then Scott pulls the emergency brake for real, and we come to a stop."
In the end credits, special thanks are given to "Rob Prior and his track transit system engineering team" and "Ludwig Duweke & all staff at the Radisson Blu Stansted" for enabling the hotel to be used as a production hub. I wonder, has this experience spoiled airports for Nunn? "Absolutely. Cruises from now on."
"One More Shot" airs on Sky Cinema from January 12.
